It is a "vivid and engaging story that reminds us how long Khaled Hosseini's people have been struggling to triumph over the forces of violence". It is about "friendship and betrayal" and the arbitrary "price of loyalty". Themes of "love, honor, guilt, fear and redemption" are all included in this "extraordinary novel".
